Prompt-ober Trois

After you carve a Jack-O-Lantern, the pumpkin starts to wiggle and squirm. It’s alive!

What does it say? What happens next?

  1. “WHAT.” It frowns and squeezes its eyes shut before opening them again. “HOW could you DO THIS to my BEAUTIFUL FACE?!”

I drop the carving knife in shock. I mean, who expects a Jack-O-Lantern to come alive? Sure, the farmer said that his pumpkins had real spirit, but I though he meant Halloween spirit!

:”WELL? I ASKED why you did SUCH A TERRIBLE JOB carving my FACE. MY FACE. The one I HAVE TO LIVE WITH for the REST of my LIFE.”

“Hey!” I may be surprised, but I did a good job on this pumpkin! “Your face looks perfectly fine! Two triangle eyes, a circle nose, and a wide smile! You’re charming!”

“NO I’M NOT. THIS is the face of NERD. A DORK. DESTINED to be ridiculed by ALL OTHER PUMPKINS. Its GENERIC and STEREOTYPICAL. WHERE is your ORIGINALITY?!”

It continued fuming as I stared at it in disbelief. Who would’ve thought I picked a vain pumpkin? The pumpkin stopped for a moment before sighing.

“You know what? That was harsh. You probably haven’t cared many pumpkins, have you?”

    I shook my head.

“Alright, kid, let me tell you how it’s done…”
